Bobby Green Wiki

Bobby Green is an American lightweight fighter currently signed to the UFC. He is a blue belt in Brzillian Jiu Jitsu and trains out of Pinnacle Jiu Jitsu in Fontana, California. He has also fought for promotions such as Affliction, King of the Cage, Tachi Palace Fights and Strikeforce. Green holds notable wins over Charles Bennett, Daron Cruikshank, Ricky Legere and Jacob Volkmann. He has held both the Junior Welterweight and Lightweight titles in KOTC and has been awarded the "Submission of the Night" bonus one time in the UFC. Of his twenty one wins, seventeen have been finishes including nine submissions.

Green was born in Inland Empire, California in 1986 but became a foster child at the age of five. He started wrestling when he was a sophomore in high school and found that he had a gift for it, even placing twice in the state tournament. He didn't start training in MMA until he needed money to support his son while he worked at a warehouse He found that he had a knack for fighting, going 8-1 in his first seven months including winning an eight man, one night tournament in Mexico City. He gained the attention of the Affliction promotion and was given a spot on their second and final card against Dan Lauzon. Although he would lose a submission in the first round, he would bounce back with three more wins. He would again be given a big name fight when he took on David Mitchell at TPF 2 but would again lose a submission.

After achieving an 11-3 record, Bobby would begin an impressive run with KOTC. He was able to defeat MMA veteran, Charles Bennett, with a first round knockout and was given a shot at the KOTC Junior Welterweight Title against another veteran, Ricky Legere. He would win the title with another first round knockout. He was able to defend the title against future UFC fighter, Daron Cruikshank but would lose it to another future UFC fighter, Tim Means. He was given another title shot the next year at lightweight and was able to defeat Dom O'Grady by decision.

Green would vacate his KOTC title in order to join the Strikeforce promotion in 2011. He would face Gesias Cavalcante but would again lose a decision. He would fight for more times for Strikefore, gaining two decision and two submission wins, before being brought over to the UFC when Strikeforce ceased operations. In his UFC debut, he was matched with long time UFC fighter, Jacob Volkmann. Although he was a major underdog going into the fight, he was able to control almost the entire fight and secure a submission with only thirty five seconds remaining in the fight. This feat would earn him the "Submission of the night" bonus.

Bobby was slated to fight Danny Castillo, but a hand injury forced Green out of competition for a few months. He next fought James Krause at UFC: Fight for the Troops 3. The fight ended in controversy however. Green was deducted a point after two low lows in the first minute of the fight, but when a third appeared to land and Krause fell to the mat, the referee stopped the fight and declared Green the winner by TKO since he believed that the last kick was legal therefore Krause appeared to be verbally submitting. He would get back into the octagon onl thirty eight days later when he stepped in as a late replacement against Pat Healy. Throughout the fight, Green was able to use superior footwork and speed to outwork Healy on the way to a unanimous decision victory.

Green will look to pick up his 8th straight win when he faces Jim Miller at UFC 172.
